Chairman's Welcome

From Norman Harris
player photo details

It gives me great pleasure as Chairman to welcome one and all to porthcawltownafc.co.uk home of Porthcawl Town. This season we see Damien Lacey and his Management team running our Welsh League team. With Tom Warren and Gary Phillips running our Welsh Reserve team.

May I take this opportunity to wish all Managers, Coaches, Captains and Players a successful season and be 100% commited on and off the field.

My thanks is extended to all our sponsors for their ongoing support in the form of kits, banners, advertising and also to all our 200 club members all of which are of great importance to the running of the club. I would urge everyone involved with the club to try and patronise our sponsors when ever possible, and if you are not a 200 club member then please join for just £1.00 a month.

Many Thanks

Norman Harris

A Brief History

The club has come a long way in the past years becoming one of the most respected outfits in the South Wales Amateur League. Between 1990 to 1994 they won almost every honour the league had on offer, also during that time, won the South Wales Intermediate Cup and lost in the finals of the Welsh intermediate Cup.

In 1994 the Club won promotion into the Welsh League, winning promotion into the second division at the first attempt. The club spent two seasons in the second division before being promoted to division one in 1996, reaching the semi-finals in the Cyril Rogers Cup, and losing in the quarter final of the Welsh Cup. In 1997/1998 the club finished 10th in the league, in 1998/99 relegated to division two, and have been trying to get back into division one for the past five seasons. We came very close in 2000 / 2001 and 2001 / 2002 finishing fourth on both occasions, 2002 / 2003 and 2003 / 2004 we finished in the bottom half of the league. 2004 / 2005 very disappointing being relegated to the third division. 2005 / 2006 was disappointing with being involved in a relegation battle but thanks to all involved for keeping the club its Welsh League status finishing in 13th in the League. 2006 / 2007 we had a bad start only winning one of our first ten games but after that put on some excellent performances and finished a very respectable eighth. 2008/2009 set out at the start of the season to get promoted which was with one game to spare.

This season more of the same please!
